WEEK ONE:
The first
day of this course as planned by the Instructor, Michelle Newlands was to
introduce ourselves to the class. The Instructor introduced herself, told the
class of her nationality, name and her purpose in the class.
STUDENTS’ INTRODUCTION:
The students
were made to follow the laid down example, thus mention your name, a bit of an
academic background, what you do for a living and most importantly, what
informed your choice of the subject PUBLIC ITY METHODS.
COURSE STRUCTURE:
The
Instructor took the opportunity to explain the structure of the course and what
it entails to the class. She explicitly spoke about the need to have a good
media relation to realize one’s ream of undertaking a Publicity Campaign.
THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON I LEANRT
FOR THE DAY:
After all
the discussions and activities of the day, what I found most important t in
succeeding in a publicity campaign is the PERSONAL
INTEREST IN THE FIELD. This is because the interest
will propel you to a higher height in your field of endeavor.
WHY I FOUND THAT TO BE THE MOST
IMPORTANT LESSON OF THE DAY
It is rare
for one to succeed in any field of endeavor if he or she has no interest in
what he or she does because the interest will inspire such a person to explore
more. Exploring here means the person takes time to see the best possible means
of doing something and not just that, but to work to meet the goals set for a
particular project. You
can’t develop a campaign or an activity for a group of people when you do not
have their interest at heart especially as the development Communicator
operates as a non-profit organization.
HOW I WILL APPLY THAT IN DEVELOPMENT
COMMUNICATION
I now know
that Development Communication thrives on interest in the field, the passion
for the job and the people expected to be the beneficiaries of the project. The
understanding from the day’s lecture will propel me to build consensus with
stakeholders before embarking on the project.
